Day 57 - Smithers, B.C
Today we had another rainy day as we left Stewart, B.C. The good news was the roads. They were well paved and had lines in the center and on the sides; whoopee!!
We took a side trip to the town of Gitanyow, which means "place of reduced number" and was named because many of its inhabitants were killed in raids. This native village has many totem poles, a museum and a gift shop. some of the totem poles date back to the late 1700's. You can get an idea of the size of them with Susan standing next to this shorter totem.
The sign explaining the totems. These are the older totems that are stored on the porch of the museum for protection.
The lady working on the "button blanket" was creating it for the clan chief. He wanted a new one for a ceremony that will be taking place in a couple of weeks. It is called "The Raven's Nest".
Our destination for today is the Riverside Golf & RV Park in Smithers, B.C. Rocky McEwan could not extend his slide today, so Jerry Fox and Rocky were under it trying to analyze the problem. Unfortunately, it looked like a broken part that would require some professional help.
Millie and Frank Cotten were instrumental in putting together a "Thank You" party for the four Schaafs. As staff members they always ate last, so tonight they were given the opportunity to eat first. The food was prepared by all the members of the caravan and as usual, everything was delicious.
I took pictures of each table.
The third table. After we ate, Frank Cotten got things rolling by thanking the Schaafs for all they had done for us. And then went into some light hearted ribbing.
Dave Makepeace, who is a longtime friend of the Schaafs, told a story about Phil having a little off-roading incident en route to the next campground. All of these folks were on-stage at one of the many shows we saw during our tour. Left to Right - we have Cathy Mulkins, our poker winner, Rocky "Stud Muffin' McEwan, Bill "Pooky" Weeks, our two "Dance Hall Floozies" Lynne Arigema and Madi Schaff, behind them is Phil "Garter Belt" Schaaf and finally, Dave "Sweet Lips" Wilson.
Day 58 - Prince George, B.C.
