Day 9 - Travel to Prince George, BC
It was overcast and raining when we left Valemont, BC this morning. The folks with 5th wheels left early this morning so they could arrive first at the RV park. The motorhomes left after 10:00 AM. But once again, it started to clear up around noon.
We have left the mountains for the foothills as we move closer to Prince George Along the way, Russ Buck took the wonderful picture of a bear standing on his hind legs looking over the tall grass.
The Lupine and Indian Paint Brush plants grew wild at our campsite.
Day 10 - Prince George, BC
Today was a free day, but it started in style with coffee and donuts at Phil and Sue's rig. Most of us caught up on shopping at Costco, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and the Canadian Super Store. However, Susan and I visited the Railway and Forestry Museum in Prince George.
They had a number of restored engines and rail cars. This is a 601 Russell plow. It was made in 1903 and it was used to clear snow from the tracks between Squamish and Lillooet until 1950 when it was replaced by an all metal plow. Yes indeed, with the exception of the scraper and the edges, it is made entirely of wood.
This is one of seven electric locomotives build by General Motors in Ontario. They were built in the 1980's and were used in the Bull Moose and Quintette coal mines until 2000. Bill is trying his engineer skills driving the big electric.
We were introduced to the three new couples who joined us in Prince George and we were treated to a great Pizza dinner. The mosquitoes were getting a little tough, so Millie Cotton tried out her mosquito hat as Frank looks on with envy.
The drivers meeting was held following our feast and we are ready to move on to Dawson Creek, BC. Sue Schaaf is explaining a procedure to the group.
