- Only
corrugated cardboard may be used. It can be of any thickness but must not be
bonded to any other material such as vinyl. Non-corrugated material may not be
used, especially the kind of resin or wax-type coating found in packing cases.
No solid cardboard and no carpet roll tubes may be used.
- Wood,
metal, Styrofoam, or other materials that would aid in flotation or make the hull
rigid are prohibited. This restriction applies to the keel, transom, ribs, hull,
etc.
- No
material such as Styrofoam or rubber inflation devices may be used to provide
"buoyancy" or maintain flotation. No sandbags or similar materials
may be used for ballast.
- Hulls
may be painted with any "one-part" paint. No epoxy glues, fiberglass
resins or "two-part" varnishes or paints may be used. Hulls may not
be "wrapped" in plastic, duct tape or anything else. Tar based substances
like roof coatings are not permitted.
- Joints
and seams may be glued and/or taped. Duct tape, contact cement, rubber cement,
liquid nail, and a water sealer like THOMPSON'S may be used. No nails or metal
or wood fasteners or staples may be used in the construction of the boat (small
amounts may be used for removable decoration only).
- Design
is builder’s choice. Let your "imagination" reign supreme!! A minimum
of 65% of the boat’s volume must remain as part of the boat when raced. Failure
to meet this rule will result in a 20 second penalty in each race entered.
- Decorations
may be made from any material but may not be used to reinforce the actual
structure of the boat.
- Clubs/Organizations
entering boats from "prior" years will be required to enter at least
one new boat for each such old boat. If the old boat is unmodified from the previous
year(s), it is ineligible to be judged in any category in which it won an award
the preceding year(s). However, if the old boat has been modified with a completely
new theme, it may be judged as a new entry. The exception to this would be the
Best Construction category; if the boat is a previous winner in that category,
it is not eligible to be judged in Best Construction.
- All
participants must wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and shoes. Enforced
Safety Requirement: No boat will be allowed to leave the starting gate unless
"all" persons on board are wearing a PFD and shoes. (Clubs will
provide their own PFDs and paddles.)
- This
event is intended to be a non-commercialized local boating event. Sponsors are
not permitted. Clubs/Organizations may use a caricature of a logo or theme generally
recognized as a commercial product as long as the product or company does not
sponsor these boats.
- Captains
and crew of all boats must be adult members of the participating club/organization.
- Boats
are subject to inspection and disqualification for each violation of the above
General Rules, (with the exception of rule # 6 which results in a time penalty).
- All
entrants must ensure that their portion of the beach has been adequately cleaned
prior to departure on race day.
- Clubs
that leave the remains of their boats at the beach are responsible for ensuring
that the boat is unusable by cutting the boat into sections, and placing all sections
into the designated disposal area.
- Boats will be judged in the following categories:
a. b. c. d. e. f. g. | Best
Original Design / Theme / Uniqueness Best Construction or Construction Technique Best
Decorated / Most Aesthetically Pleasing\ Best Team Effort (T-shirts, cheer
leaders, costumes, etc) Captains Choice (All captains vote for their favorite) Most
