| Day 16 - Cavendish, Prince Edward Island |

Early this morning, until about 10:00 AM we were pounded with some very heavy rainstorms. But after that it started clearing up and the sun shone for the rest of the day. |

Today was a free day, so we all scattered to different areas of the island. Hopefully, I can post more pictures as other members of the caravan contribute photos. |

Summerside ,PEI is the home of the College of Piping & Celtic Performing Arts of Canada. Students start as young as 8 learning to play the bagpipes & drums, younger students start dancing lessons. A tour of the facilities was also given by the performers. The gift shop has some lovely tartans & Celtic jewelry.

A short concert was given with each class of study including an explanation of the instrument's construction & workings. |

Ernie Lindgren has this sign on the back of his rig and most of us could easily relate to it. |

After a mostly sunny day we all boarded the bus to Charlottetown for dinner (on us) and theater (included in package). |
It was Bob Beiter's birthday, so he was serenaded with a slightly off-key rendition of "Happy Birthday to You". |

On the way we picked up Irene, bur tour guide from Saturday, so she could tour us around the city. Since we were not able to see St Mary's Catholic church on Saturday, she wanted to show us St Paul's Anglican church today. |

This was built by the same architect who built St Mary's and has the same acoustics. All the arches seemed to be designed like the hull of a ship. |

The stained glass was beautiful and they do have a pipe organ, no we did not hear it played. |

Charlottetown does have some unique modes of transportation.. |

off, and on the water. |

This is the Haviland Club, an officers club that has been around for many years. |

The main street in downtown Charlottetown. |

This is the Province House, it is where the Provincial government meets and has been in operation since the mid 1800s. |

Since it is a small legislature and it consists of two parties, the room is fairly small. They are separated from side-to-side by the ruling (majority) and the non-ruling sides. |

After leaving Province House, we had about two hours to have dinner and walk around. This is a view of the harbor which was dotted with many sailboats. |

A wonderful street band entertained us as we strolled by. |

Now why a picture of trash containers you ask? If you look carefully in the upper LH corner you see something sitting on the stone wall... |

it was this wonderfully whimsical mouse statue. There were at least two of these in town. What a hoot! |

Our entertainment for the evening was to attend the musical play "Anne of Green Gables". It has been playing since 1964. |

Everyone was seated together for the play. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the show. The only complaint I heard was the seats seemed to be designed for the mid 1800s human body and were not very comfortable. But, the show made up for it. Thanks Adventure Caravans for including this in the itinerary. |
